PosterGarden's third annual nonprofit art, culture, parks and gardens partners appreciation event

At a festive and friendly reception inside its Pearl District showroom Jan. 23, PosterGarden celebrated the many relationships it has with local nonprofit art and culture organizations, parks and gardens. The event gave PosterGarden the opportunity to express its continued support for its partners, while also bringing together the organizations to help further the sense of community among them.

“Hats off to PosterGarden for their support and their true appreciation for their nonprofit partners,” said Sue Metzler, development director of the Oregon Historical Society. “Not only do they provide a gorgeous product to promote our missions, but they often provide a venue for sharing ideas and celebrating accomplishments.”

Through its PosterGarden Fund for Arts, Culture & Gardens, PosterGarden helps community organizations through funding, donations, volunteerism and entrepreneurial ideas. Among the more than 50 people at the event representing close to 20 organizations were: Deborah Edwards, executive director of Business for Culture & the Arts; Nick Hardigg, executive director of the Portland Parks Foundation; Marta Bones, executive director of Pittock Mansion; Lisa James, director of development for the Portland Japanese Garden; and Peggie Schwarz, executive director of the Hoyt Arboretum Friends.

"PosterGarden has been a tremendous supporter of Hoyt Arboretum and is dedicated to the success of Hoyt Arboretum Friends,” Schwarz said. “Their funding of a fund-raising consultant and gift of banners to promote our activities has been an asset to our friend-raising and fund-raising campaigns. They have been instrumental in helping Hoyt Arboretum Friends create an infrastructure to increase earned and contributed income, and they have been a true partner that has generously responded to our needs numerous times."

Honored by the Portland Business Journal’s Corporate Philanthropy Awards program in 2012, PosterGarden has made philanthropy an important part of its business and its involvement in the community. The Jan. 23 event gave the company a chance to celebrate with its partners and continue to share its support.

“We continue to make these kinds of relationships and involvement an important piece of what we do,” said Wendy Mitchell, program director for the PosterGarden Fund for Arts, Culture & Gardens. “These organizations help make Portland the great place that it is. Without them, the region’s art, culture and gardens would not be what they are today. We’re happy to be able to support these groups in their invaluable work.”
